OPINION – Affordable housing is quietly falling by the wayside, unless the council intervenes.
OPINION – Affordable housing quietly falls by the wayside, unless the council intervenes Just before the autumn break, the Eindhoven city council was completely caught off guard. The municipal executive presented a proposal to tinker with the affordability requirement for new housing projects. This proposal not only makes it harder to find an affordable home but also undermines the municipality’s credibility.
On Tuesday, November 11, the 2025–2030 housing program is on the

Day of the Caregiver – an Evening Full of Appreciation
On Monday evening, November 10, Jacques Offenbach, together with the actors and director of the theatre group Proskenion, took part in a special event at Vitalis Kronehoef to mark the Day of the Caregiver. During this evening, the caregivers of Eindhoven were quite literally put in the spotlight.
Through improvisational theatre, scenes were created together with the audience based on real situations that caregivers experience in their daily lives. Offenbach actively particip

At the CKE building in Eindhoven, a Caribbean Open Day was held last Saturday.
Eindhoven residents of Caribbean descent showcased their food, music, and culture, filling the venue with color, rhythm, and warmth. In addition, there were inspiring lectures about the history of slavery.
One of the main organizers, Jacinto Zimmerman, shared his mission: to connect the past with the present, creating a city where everyone feels at home and all cultures are celebrated.

EVE cleaning up Eindhoven
Last Sunday, Eindhoven voor Elkaar joined the TroepTroopers.
We walked along in Muschenberg, where, under the inspiring leadership of Gina Makken, this group has been cleaning up the streets of Eindhoven for several years.
What began in just one neighborhood has now grown into a citywide initiative, with TroepTroopers active in several districts. The group relies on volunteers who take to the streets with garbage bags to collect cigarette butts, empty bottles, and other litt

The cry for freedom
Last Friday, EVE was at the Parktheater.
Young people from Eindhoven and the surrounding area came together to share their own stories, music, dance, and theatre in “The Cry for Freedom.” The event focused on commemorating the shared history of slavery.

EVE calls for more support for culture and sports
Small cultural organizations and sports providers in Eindhoven are increasingly under pressure.
Many are struggling to stay financially afloat and are also facing a shortage of volunteers. That’s why EVE submitted an amendment to the city budget to offer them financial support.
Unfortunately, the proposal did not gain a majority, despite broad recognition in the Council that additional support is urgently needed. EVE will continue to advocate for this cause in the coming

A meaningful morning during the week of dialogue
Daarmee will

Affordable housing under pressure. EVE draws a line
It came as a surprise: the Eindhoven city council wants to allow fewer affordable homes in new construction projects. A policy shift that goes against previous agreements, commitments, and stated principles. For EVE, this is incomprehensible.
On November 11, the city council will debate this issue and it promises to be a crucial discussion. Until recently, the agreement was clear: at least 85 percent of all new housing must be affordable, with 30 percent social housing. Th

The lesson from Vaartbroek: building begins with trust
In Eindhoven, we talk a lot about building, densifying, and accelerating. And rightly so, because the pressure on the housing market is enormous. But too often it seems as if we have to choose between speed and care. As if asking critical questions automatically means being against new housing. That is a false contradiction.

EVE welcomes the growth of the Hornemann House
EVE is very pleased that the Hornemann House in Eindhoven can continue to grow and is developing into a full-fledged center for remembrance and education. The museum, which tells the story of the Jewish brothers Edo and Lex Hornemann, plays an important role in keeping history alive and raising awareness about discrimination and antisemitism.
This development aligns well with the proposal previously adopted by the council at EVE’s initiative, aimed at strengthening dialogu
