8. Eindhoven accessible for everyone

For EVE, accessibility and mobility mean that everyone can move freely through the city and participate fully, regardless of income, age, or physical ability. Accessibility is a basic condition for being able to work, study, provide care, and relax. Yet accessibility is under pressure. Public transport is insufficient, connections are disappearing, and costs are rising. This especially affects those who are already struggling financially. EVE finds this unacceptable. A growing city must become more accessible, not less.

1. More Local Control Over Public Transport

We advocate for greater local and regional control over public transport. We will work toward a regional public transport concession so that Eindhoven and the surrounding region can steer quality, frequency, and accessibility themselves. Whatever the administrative form, public transport must improve, not be further reduced.

2. More Connections Instead of Fewer

Public transport must align with the daily lives of Eindhoven residents. We invest in more and better connections between neighborhoods, employment areas, education, and healthcare, with strong service in the evenings and on weekends. Together with transport providers, businesses, and social partners, we will actively address staff shortages in public transport and reserve funding to ensure reliable timetables and that service expansions can actually be operated.

3. Affordable Transport for Everyone

Mobility must not become a luxury. We will expand free or heavily discounted public transport for low-income residents and explore extending this to seniors, students, and other groups. In this way, everyone can participate in city life, regardless of income.

4. Cycling and Pedestrian Safety as an Absolute Priority

We will improve and expand the cycling and pedestrian network, with special attention to dangerous intersections, busy routes, and proper lighting. The design of the city will prioritize the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.

5. Space for Movement and Accessibility

We connect mobility with health. More space for walking and cycling, better connections between neighborhoods, and safe routes to schools, sports facilities, and services make physical activity a natural part of daily life.

6. A Realistic and Social Approach to Car Use

We recognize that many residents depend on cars. Especially for people with lower incomes, mobility measures must not lead to additional financial pressure. In residential neighborhoods, parking will remain affordable and accessible for residents. At the same time, in the city center and in areas with high parking pressure, we will take more targeted action against illegal parking and long-term misuse of public space. We will also invest in underground and above-ground parking facilities to use scarce space wisely while preserving sufficient space for residents. In this way, we ensure livable neighborhoods and fair access to the city.

7. Shared and Electric Mobility as a Fair Alternative

We promote shared cars and electric mobility as a complement to public transport and cycling, especially in neighborhoods with high parking pressure. The municipality will facilitate designated spaces for shared vehicles, support neighborhood initiatives, and ensure shared mobility remains affordable. At the same time, we invest in sufficient and well-distributed charging infrastructure in all neighborhoods, with particular attention to residents without private driveways. In this way, sustainable mobility becomes accessible to everyone without creating new inequalities.

8. Accessibility for People with Disabilities

The city must be usable for everyone. We design infrastructure, public transport stops, sidewalks, and public spaces to be accessible for people with disabilities, older residents, and parents with strollers, and we actively enforce these standards.

9. Structural Involvement of People with Lived Experience

Residents who experience daily barriers in mobility and accessibility will be structurally involved in policy development, design, and decision-making. Not occasionally, but as a fixed part of how we work.

10. Rail Expansion with Protection of Livability

We advocate for expansion and improvement of the rail network, as this is crucial for accessibility and sustainable growth. At the same time, we stand alongside residents who experience railway-related nuisance and invest in noise reduction, safety measures, and appropriate compensation.

11. Looking Ahead: Seriously Exploring Tram and Metro Options

Eindhoven continues to grow. What may seem too ambitious today could become necessary tomorrow. That is why we will seriously explore the long-term possibilities of tram or metro connections, ensuring we are prepared for a city that keeps growing and wants to remain accessible to everyone.
