EVE places affordability and economic security at the center of its agenda. As the cost of living continues to rise, we ensure that the people of Eindhoven maintain control over their income and that work truly pays. In a city that is growing and ambitious, economic security is not a luxury but a basic condition for stability and opportunity.
We reduce financial burdens, strengthen incomes, and lower prices wherever possible so that no one is pushed further into hardship. EVE chooses trust and humanity. Those experiencing debt or financial insecurity deserve support and perspective, not suspicion or punishment. We use every local instrument available to help people move forward. Together with social organizations and entrepreneurs, we build a strong and socially responsible economy. In this way, we ensure that everyone can participate and that no one is left behind.
1. An Alderman for Economic Security
We will appoint a dedicated Alderman for Economic Security who is integrally responsible for poverty policy, debt, income, and employment. These themes will be addressed structurally, coherently, and with clear political priority. This portfolio must be closely connected to housing policy.
2. Working from Trust and Simplicity
We move away from a system based on distrust. We make it easier for people in debt to return to work and rebuild their economic security, with fewer rules and support that is both accessible and dignified. Wherever possible, benefits and support schemes will be granted automatically without excessive conditions. We will work with one fixed contact person per household and approach residents proactively rather than waiting for them to ask for help.
3. Debt Cancellation
The municipality will no longer act as the strictest creditor. We will cancel problematic debts on a large scale to offer people real perspective. This gives residents a genuine opportunity to make a fresh start. We will also make agreements with local and national creditor organizations to support this approach.
4. Strong Focus on Debt Prevention, Support, and Health
We invest in early detection, effective support, and strong neighborhood networks. Support must be close, familiar, and accessible so that debts are prevented rather than repaired afterward. We will expand the group of residents eligible for municipal financial support. Particular attention will be given to health and well-being, as financial stress is often closely linked to mental and physical health. By connecting financial support to housing, social services, preventive healthcare, sports, and culture, we create sustainable economic security and prevent problems from accumulating.
5. Work That Pays and a Living Wage
We actively address poverty among working people. In public procurement and subsidies, the municipality will apply the principle of a living wage and fair employment conditions. We will support low-income workers with supplementary schemes that are granted automatically and without prejudice. In this way, working in Eindhoven will truly provide stability and perspective.
6. Investing in the Conditions That Make Work Possible
The municipality ensures that employment is genuinely accessible. Together with partners, we will improve access to transportation to work, support informal caregivers, and invest in language skills, education, and digital literacy. We will make childcare more accessible and affordable, including by actively addressing staff shortages. By doing so, we remove barriers that currently prevent people from participating in the workforce.
7. Better Support for Social Organizations
Organizations working on poverty reduction, welfare, and economic security are essential to ensuring that everyone can participate and seize opportunities. We will simplify subsidy procedures and reporting requirements so that these organizations can focus on their social mission rather than administrative burdens.
8. Setting the Right Example in Eindhoven
The municipality of Eindhoven will provide permanent contracts, fair wages, and good working conditions. Within the Brainport region, we will make agreements to encourage large employers to follow this example.
9. Counteracting Price Increases Where Possible
The rising cost of living and inflation affect residents deeply. Where the municipality has influence, we will work to keep prices down and establish fair pricing agreements. We will look beyond national standards and determine locally what is needed. Regionally, we will seek cooperation to better manage costs and price increases. We will also address aggressive debt collection practices by making agreements and providing legal support to residents.
10. Tackling Energy Poverty and Fixed Living Costs
We will address energy poverty and high fixed expenses in a structural way. The municipality will invest in insulation and energy-saving measures for homes of low- and middle-income residents. This includes social rental housing, but we will also establish a fund for low-income homeowners in Eindhoven. Where possible, we will reduce municipal charges and prevent residents from falling into debt due to high energy costs through early detection and targeted support. We will also require housing corporations to address overdue maintenance.
11. Supporting Organizations for People Experiencing Homelessness
We will strengthen organizations that support people experiencing homelessness in guiding them toward independent housing. The municipality will invest in renovation and maintenance, recognizing that a stable home is the foundation for rebuilding a life.
